In my introductory post of MyGirlDress.com I shared all three girls in their new Eid gowns. MyGirlDress.com – One stop shopping for girls special occasions – Fabulous dresses at affordable prices. Dresses and gloves were provided for us free of charge for our honest review.
GiGi’s gown is size 14 and fit her length and size ideally. We realized there were plenty more options in sizes 12 and 14, more so than JuJu’s size 16 choices. Even though GiGi’s gown was more fancy, with chiffon lining, the pearl-like decorative bodice and creative use of the beige extremely long, elegant, tiny belt, the prices of all these gowns were so economical. What’s obviously great for us is that we have three girls to carry down these gowns. So, when we count the numerous usages of these gowns, we’re literally paying dollars for these gorgeous timeless pieces.
I admit, I’ve paid A LOT more on previously Eid gowns then these priced at MyGirlDress.com
For those wondering, why we dress so formally during Eid. First, its sunnah to wear our “best” clothes on these days, not our newest or most expensive. Second, it all started why my girls were flower girls for my sister’s wedding. We paid $100s on each gown, and when I saw that hadith, I said what’s better than our gowns? So, I started dressing them only in their best gowns twice a year. Then, the following year they were in my brother’s wedding, and had more gowns to wear and carry down to the next sister.
The only time they didn’t have gowns was last year because we were overseas and we couldn’t find gowns in a rush, as we were rushed to travel overseas and didn’t even think of gowns–we were just rushing to get in when the borders opened. Previous years, we always brought our gowns overseas with us too, but little girls’ gowns because of flower girl dresses were always easy to find. I was pleased that MyGirlDress.com offers the tween/teen sizes as Junior Bridesmaids gowns, that’s the category I found of my girls.
Also, last year overseas JuJu and GiGi were both covered. So, it was a quite joyous to find MyGirlDress.com, otherwise I was considering tailoring them their own gowns, which I did for other occasions in the past.
The quality of all these gowns are high-quality, it’s some of the best namebrands available, as MyGirlDress.com actually provides for many high-end dress shops even in places like Beverly Hills. However, they are FAR from Beverly Hill prices, thankfully!
The Sabra Sisters’ Eid Candy Basket Tradition
Oh, and for the flower basket GiGi is wearing. The same year the girls started wearing flower girl gowns to Eid, I loved the idea of this elderly wise couple who always stood at the door of the convention center and passed out crisp $1 bills. All the kids welcomed the treat, and the parents grinned in the generosity as I am right now recalling these fond memories. So, I thought I have to do something next year, inshaAllah. So, I fill all the girls flower baskets with candies and sometimes gift cards if they’re in season. Those few years in Toledo, our entire community knew to expect the Sabra Sisters in their fancy gowns passing out candies to the kids (young and old).
This is our little tradition we continue to this day, of course, it was adorable and cute when they were younger, but the girls love the gifts and smiles it brings to everyone now being young women holding on to something we always did and always will, inshaAllah. I remember when we were leaving Toledo, OH, one dear college student who was very close to our family actually asked “Khalto…I’ve always loved how the girls pass out candy from their flower baskets. Do you mind if I do that with my girls when I become a mom, inshaAllah?” Smiles and hugs overcame me, as it was one of the most beautiful gestures ever requested.
My girls and I have brought these candy baskets in every city and state we’ve lived in. Just this past Eid, a high school photographer for the masjid in the park came up to us asking our permission to take pictures as everyone was “talking about the girls all day” but he was covering the nearly 1000 people all morning. While, we’re not for pictures, as seen in our pixalated faces, it was the end of the event and we had no candy left. SubhanAllah. 😉
